URI Rams Triumph in Thrilling Intrastate Showdown Against Providence Friars

Providence College faced the University of Rhode Island Rams in an intrastate basketball matchup on December 7, 2024. The game took place in Kingston, R.I., and ended with a 69-63 victory for the URI Rams, improving their record to 9-0 for the season.

The contest was tightly contested throughout, showcasing the skills and determination of both teams. 

In the first half, Providence shot 46.7% from the field and 40.0% from three-point range, while URI struggled with a 34.4% shooting rate from the field and 20.0% from beyond the arc. Providence held a slight lead going into halftime.

In the second half, URI opened strong, scoring the first three points of the period. Providence faced a scoring drought, allowing URI to narrow the point gap. Bryce Hopkins from Providence provided a spark, helping to maintain the Friars' lead for some of the second half. The game remained close with URI taking a three-point lead at 64-61 with just 1:54 left. In the final moments, URI extended their lead to six points to secure the victory.

Several players made significant contributions during this match. Bryce Hopkins scored 16 points in his second game back from injury, while Bensley Joseph also contributed 16 points, including a vital three-pointer.
